The Funny For The Day..............Libby The Dog

This morning Helmsly (the dog) and I went for our walk. The fresh air always makes one feel better. The people from Minnesota that live on the corner came in at 6am this morning. They left Christmas Day morning and drove all night. They said the roads were empty so they had clear sailing. I am not doing the drive straight through thing anymore. We did it too many years and I am not doing it anymore. They have a new puppy about 8 months old. She is a Irish Setter named Libby. When Libby saw Helmsly she ran right up to him and wanted to play. Since she is a puppy she is quite rambunkshus so Helmsley was alittle put off.  We started to walk away and she ran up to Helmsly and laid right down in the road on her back with her feet in the air. It their way of saying I am friendly. I was laughing so hard. Ok we go to leave again and start walking down the road. Once again here comes Libby and she lays down feet up in the air. This went on 4 times. Each time I was laughing harder. The women could not get her dog. Finally I said I guess I will just stand here or else Libby would have followed us all the way home. The husband comes out of the house and is like what is wrong and the women explained what Libby was doing. He said just pick her up and of course Libby was being statue dog and would not move. Finally the women said you come get Libby I can't get her to go with me. She even walks to the house, we are down the road and Libby is still laying in the road with her feet up in the air. Husband now comes and gets Libby and I am laughing all the way home. Helmsley has now found a new playmate. It really made my morning.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to All

I want to wish my followers and readers a Very Merry Christmas.  If you don't celebrate Christmas than I wish you Happy Holidays.  So what am I doing tonight and tomarrow.....well, I am the lucky recipient of a cold or the creeping crud that decided to attack last night so for the next couple of days at least I will be stuck in my lazy boy recliner and when I feel well enough I will play on my computer.  No holiday parties or visiting with friends and relatives.  Oh yes,  my husband was the one that decided to give me this wonderful present.  He came down with it on Monday and it still will not left him.  I don't like this present very much.  We are such a cute couple with our red noses, sneezing, coughing and everything else goes along with the creeping crud.   So sitting in my lazy boy it is.  So to everyone out there I wish you a Very Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.  If you are like me sitting home for the holiday drop me a note and say hi.  I would love to hear from you.   Nancy

The Funny For The Day................The blue haired gang is at it again

The blue haired gang is at it again.  Today I went to the drug store to pickup some last little trinkets for Christmas.  There was only one checkout with a very long line and the other clerk at the other register was busy with this old guy (very thick glasses, hearing aid and a cane the whole nine yards).  He was buying Miller beer and supposedly paid for it with a $100.00 bill.  The clerk gave him change for a $10.00 dollar bill.  Now old guy is really making a fuss claiming she cheated him as he gave her a $100.00.  Now the store manager has to come and count out her draw to see who is telling the truth.  Now the clerk had just checked in so she knew how many hundred dollar bills she had in the register, she had 3 and no more.   The manager counted out the drawer and found that the drawer was already short so the old guy could have not have given her a $100.00 bill.  They argued back and forth and finally the store manager said to the old guy....what if I just give you $10.00 would that make you happy and in turn he said yes.  So he now took the free $10.00 and his now free beer and went on his way.  Is that all it takes to get free money and free beer.

Post Script......The store manager wanted the clerk than to sign off on giving the old guy the free money and beer so it would look like it was her fault.  She was like no way, am I taking responsibility for that.   Sometimes being in a long line is not bad.  It can be very entertaining.

The Funny For The Day.... The Night Before Christmas read by Liberace

Today while I was out running errands I was listing to Sirius xm radio the  Holiday Music station.  The voice was unforgettable and when I heard it I started to cry.  It was Liberace from The Liberace Show reading The Night Before Christmas.  So why did it make me cry...I remembered him reading the story on his tv show.  I saw that show.  I was 4 years old.  The program came on right before I left for kindergarten.   The picture of him is from that show.  I guess I am just a sentimental old fool.

The Funny For The Day......................Snowman Golf Cart

I saw the cutest golf cart today.  My husband was looking out the window and he starts yelling come here quick.  There out in front of the house was a golf cart covered in cotton with huge round balls of cotton stuck all over it.  On top of the golf cart was a large light up plastic snowman.  The whole golf cart looked like one big ball of snow.  I wish he had said bring your camera so I could have taken a picture of it, to show you.

The Funny For The Day............Update of the UPS guy in the golf cart

It did not take long to figure out why the UPS guy is driving a golf cart.  Apparently it is not just in my little community.  Attached is a link to the news station report.

The Funny For The Day....................The UPS guy is driving a golf cart

On Tuesday I received a package delivered by UPS.  The funny thing about it was, I did not hear the truck.  Because I live on a dead end the truck has to turn around so I always hear him.  But this time nothing.  On Wednesday I was looking out the window when I saw this golf cart pulling a wagon stopped in front of the house.  The UPS man got out of the golf cart and picked out a package from his wagon and came up to the house.   I said what happened to the truck?  He said something about not being able to have the truck and since they are on a tight schedule he just jumped back on the golf cart and away he went, burning rubber at about 15 miles an hour.  Tonight when Helmsley and I were taking our nightly walk there in the next block was the UPS guy delivering packages on his golf cart pulling a wagon.  There is several options here....

1.   The trucks are too noisy so they were banned in the park.
2.   The UPS man does not have a truck license only a license to drive a golf cart.
3.   Way too many packages and not enough trucks so golf carts it is.

I will keep you posted on this very secretive mission of the UPS man and the golf cart.

The Funy For The Day....................Helmsley The Dog and Santa

Across the street and a couple of houses down is a house all doodled up for Christmas. It looks real pretty. One of the decorations they have is a blowup Santa sitting in a chair and it waves. At night when we walk and the house is all lite up santa just sits and waves and waves. So when we walk past, Helmsley the dog stops and stares at Santa and then he begins to bark and bark and bark. He stands his ground like statue dog and it is hard to pull him away. The next house has a wood painted Santa and Helmsley just looks at it and then turns around and looks at the blowup one. He is very confused at the two. He has done this for the last 3 Christmas's, this time I took a picture for you to see of Santa.

The Funny For The Day....................My Husband Is Missing

A lady calls the police to report her husband is missing. The police arrive and ask for a description. She tells them he's 6 foot 2 inches tall, blonde wavy hair and has a smile that makes everybody love him. The police then go to the next door neighbor to verify this report and the lady next door tells the police, "You can't believe her. He's 5 foot 4 inches tall, has no hair and he wears a perpetual frown on his face." The neighbor then goes and asks the lady why she gave the police such a false report. She replies, "Just because I reported him missing, doesn't mean I wanted him back!"

The Funny For The Day..................How not to cook a turkey

Picture it, the year is about 1965 and our neighbor lady was cooking her Thanksgiving turkey on the front porch.  She was using one of those old bbq grills that you could attach a rotating spit and the turkey would turn.  Now the front porch had a low overhang and every time the turkey would turn  the grease would hit the coals and shoot up a huge flame.  I stood there and watched the flames get higher and higher.  I told her this is not a good idea, this is going to cause a fire.  She told me, it is going to be fine, and I told her no and she said IT'S FINE.  Remember I am about 12 and what does a 12 year old know.  Sure enough on one of the turns the flames shot up the turkey basically burst into flames and started the overhang on the porch on fire.  One of her sons who was my age and I were watching as she starts screaming help!!! I yelled to her get some baking soda to put out the fire.  She told her son get the baking soda and instead of putting it on the grill, she poured it all over the turkey.  Yes the baking soda stopped the fire, but it also killed the turkey.  No turkey dinner for the Smith family.  (Name changed to protect the stupid)

Moral of the story...........never cook a turkey on a porch with a low overhang and listen to kids once in awhile they might be smarter than you.

The Funny For The Day.........................Who is in the nursing home with mother

This is my own personal funny.   When my mother was in the nursing home she use to tell me about this one lady that would sing for the other residents.  This lady was a resident in the same nursing home as my mother.  Mother said she had a really good voice and was a good entertainer.  I did not know her name but mother would talk about her all of the time.  One day I asked mother who is that lady and she replied she was one of Elvis's backup singers.  I am like WHAT....she sang with Elvis Presley? Oh yes, mother replied and you should see her scrap book and pictures of Elvis etc.    Ok what is she doing here in this nursing home.  Of course we don't know.  I asked mom's care giver about this and she replied, yes it is true.  She was one of Elvis's backup singers.  I never did get to meet her or see her albums.  You never know who you will meet.

    My feral kitten babies

I have been crying for 3 days since I made the decision to take them to the Humane Society.  Trust me when I tell you, I did not want to do this, but I just don't have the money for the vet.  I took them in this morning in the pouring rain.  I guess the clouds felt as sad as I did.  At the Humane Society they will stay there until they are adopted. Since they were only babies they will probably be adopted within a few days of being up for adoption.  The guy at the HS did say that Mickey had something going on in his belly, since he was so boney but had this huge polar bear tummy.  I already knew that.  They have 10 vets on site so they would get immediate checkup and medication.  They are now both over 2 pounds so when they are healthy the will get spade and neutered.  I gave them instructions and signed papers that if they would have to be put down for health or behavioral issues to call me.  If they think they can't be adopted because they are unfriendly, not to me.  They love me.  I did not search for them and feed them and rescue them for them to end up dead cats.   They will try to have them adopted together but can not guarantee that.  They do background checks on perspective parents so they will hopefully go to a good home.  I was so depressed I could not even go shopping.  Now that is depressed.  I figure another day of crying then I will be ok.  I never fostered pets before and I really do not know how people do it.  Whether they foster human babies or animal babies how do you turn them over without it ripping out your heart.  I know I will never forget the 2 little babies that came into my heart.   Minnie Kittie and Mickey Kittie.

My feral kittens............Mickey and Minnie need medical attention

Minnie is doing better everyday in becoming a house cat.  Minnie still hisses.  We are stating to think she does not know how to meow.  Her hissing is her meowing.  At least she is getting better when she gets startled.  She is kitty farting less.  She needs medical attention also.  Mickey is all boy.  The arms are still wild with the claws out and he does not want to be held.  But the funny thing is, when he is sitting in the cage he likes to watch me on the computer and then he just starts purring and purring.  He really is not doing a good job on trying to act like a tough cat.  He also likes the dog and is very interested in him.  Minnie does not think too much of the big dog.   Both Minnie and Mickey have health issues that need to be seen by a vet, but since that is not at all in the budget..........Mickey is just bones on the upper portion of this body.  His stomach is huge.  It either means he has worms. (I have seen no evidence of that)  or he is suffering from malnutrition.  Which is quite possible since I don't think he ate for weeks before I caught him.  He has been eating like a pig so it is either or.   There are no free animal clinics and I even called the humane society to see if they would help.  At least a free checkup or something but no.  I know it is alot to ask.  I even asked them about doing a checkup etc and then I will foster them until they are ready to be adopted and again the answer was no.    I am hoping for more sales on Etsy so I can get these little kittens the medical attention they need.  Please checkout my Etsy page.

    My feral have names

I figured it was about time I gave these little kittens a name, stead of black one and gray one.  After thinking it over, there was only one name to give them.  We now have Mickey and Minnie.   Last night Minnie was out for her bonding time, when something scared her and off she went.  I was watching Ghost Hunters at the time. :)  I found her in the bedroom hiding under the dresser.  Today they both were out for bonding time and Mickey is all boy.  He is just arms and legs, claws out and fighting.  Remember he is still new to this.  After I wrapped him up in the towel, he had no choice but to settle down.  He did meow this morning which is a good sign.  Minnie still hisses.  I don't think she knows how to meow.  We are thinking her hissing is her meowing.  Minnie loves bonding time.  She just lays all sprawled out purring.  She is doing well adjusting to the situtation.  Today Wicket my older female cat was sitting on top of the cage and when husband when to get her down she got made at him.  I am starting to think she wants to adopt them.   Later on tonight they will come out once again for bonding.  Remember I only have a month to get them ready to be adopted. They are still both eating like pigs.

    My feral kittens...................update

My feral kittens are progressing nicely.  The little black one (the girl) is very protective of her little brother.  I have had her out and we are learning how to play.  She sits on my lap and stretches and likes her belly rubbed.  I have attached a mouse cat toy on a string and have it dangling from the top of the cage.  They are getting the hang of batting it around and trying to grab it.  It is like they are playing tetherball.  I had the little boy out today for a little bonding time, but he is still a little scared and tries grabbing me with his claws out.  Remember this only his second time out of the cage.  I will take the little black one out later on.  She is doing better each day.  They are still too new to being in the house, so I cannot let them have any freedom yet.  They are both eating like pigs.

    My feral kitten...............its a boy

The new little gray fluffy feral kitten is a boy.  The black one is a girl and the gray one is a boy.  I waited until he ate and was happy that he found his sister and then I gave him a bath.  He really really is under weight.  He also weighs about 1 pound 10 ounces but he is bigger but very skinny.  Since I haven't seen him in almost 2 weeks, I don't think he has had much to eat.  I don't think he knows how to catch mice or moles.  He has been eating all day.   He is a very calm cat for being feral, but then again he is with his sister.  He gave a little struggle during the bath but afterwards when he was wrapped in the towel he was just purring, so I know he was happy.  The little black one his sister is the tough one of the two, or at least she thinks she is.  She hisses and then I tell her, she is not a big cat.  She then puts her head down and starts to purr real loud.  The one funny thing about her is because of this is so new to her, things scare her.  When she gets scared or startled, she kitty farts and they are not good smelling kitty farts.  She is getting better at that.  The two of them are curled up together sleeping right now.  When I go watch tv in about 15 minutes I will take the little girl with me for some play time.  Or just getting use to being around people.  Tomarrow I will take the little boy the gray one out for play time.

My feral baby I have 2

The good news of the day is the other baby kitten, the little gray fluffy one is still alive.  Since I hadn't seen it in 2 weeks I thought it had passed.  Since she was very hungry it only took 15 minutes to trap.  It took her longer how to figure to get into the trap.  She really is a cutie.  I didn't bother to leave her in the garage for several days, I first brought the trap into the house so she could see her sister and they were very happy to see one another.  I then took the trap back out to the garage and opened it up and poured her out right into the towel where I wrapped her up nice and secure.  I then just brought her into the house and put her into the large cage.  After she ate up the original dish of food she went after the other one.  The two little kittens are now snuggling up to each other like they did outside.  Happy Day.   I will wait until later on this afternoon and attempt to give her a bath and a flea spray.  Check for ear mites etc.  She is rather scruffy looking.

    My feral kitten...............update

My little feral kitten is doing great considering she has only been in the house 1 day.  She still hisses at you, but then I tell her she is just trying to be a big cat and then she starts to purr again real loud.  We had play time in the living room this morning, but because she is a feral she really doesn't know about playtime.  I tried the catnip mouse a ball etc and she just sat and stared at them.  Helmsley the dog kept his distance not really knowing what to make of the baby.  I weighed her today and she is 1 pound 10 ounces.  Ghost Hunters is live tonight so while I watch it, I will have baby kitty with me for more playtime.

    My feral kitten.............update

My little feral kitten is doing real good.  I gave her a bath this afternoon and she did not mind it a bit.  I used the new Wen pumpkin spice shampoo so she smells real pretty.  I then sprayed her down with the all natural flea spray that smells like cloves.  I towel dried her and wrapped her up in the towel.  She really likes that and purrs just like a little motor boat.  Purrs and purrs and purrs.  She is now sleeping in the cage but I will now take her out for alittle bonding time.

    My feral kitten................update

The baby kitten is in the house now.  In fact, I just wrapped her in a soft towel and carried her in.  She, I now believe she is a girl and she is so very small.  I first guessed she was 10 weeks old but in fact she is much younger.   When she saw Wicket my older female cat she just started meowing like crazy.   She really needs her mother, but as I told you before, her mother was picked up by the humane society as she was a stray or feral.  Her sibiling are gone also.  I feel so bad for her.  She is going to have a bath as she really really stinks.  Sleeping in leaves and dirt etc has not made her smell so pretty.  Besides the fact she slept in the cat pan all night.  She has now figured out what the towels are for so she is sleeping in them.   Her ears smell so she probably also has ear mites.  Her feet are crusted with crap, oh she really needs a bath.  I am going to attempt a bath later on when she gets more settled and her body temp adjusts to being in the house.  I need suggestions.

    My feral kitten cat...................update

This morning I went in to check on the little kitten and give him his breakfast.  He was doing fine and just sitting in the cat pan.  Why they like to sleep in the cat pan is beyond me.  He also let me pet him.  Were making progress.  When we travel in the car that is where Malley cat likes to sit.   In a hour or so we will bring him in the house.  That will be fun.

The Funny For The Day...............My car got door dinged

Yesterday my best friend, her sister-in-law, my daughter, her grandmother (husbands mom) and I went to lunch at Jimmie Johns before the fashion show.  When I was leaving Jimmy Johns daughter came running out of Jimmie Johns and said to me, that is your car and I said yes why?  She replied,  grandma door dinged you.  Sure enough there was a nice new white door ding on my silver car.  My mother-in-law door dinged me.  I had a good laugh at that one.  Husband laughed also.

    My feral kitten cat....................update

This morning I went into the garage to check on the trap and as luck would have it, the little kitten was in the trap.  He had eaten all of the food.   I wanted to get the trap up off the floor because it is cold in the garage.  I put the trap inside of the large cage and added new food and water.  I also covered the cage with a old heavy wool army blanket.  He is now doing ok.   I had to go to a fashion show this afternoon so he was on his own to get use to his new surroundings.   When I came back to check on him he started to meow at me right away and HE WAS PURRING at me real loud.  I am now doing the dance of joy.  He has now figured out that I am not going to hurt him and I am only trying to help him.  I tied twisty ties around the top nice and tight so he can not get out again.  I placed the kitty potty in the cage along with alot of towels for a bed and the food and water.  Now came the big challenge, to get him into the large cage.  With husbands help when we opened the trap door and he very calmly walked into the large cage.   He went right to the kitty potty and flopped down in it and started rolling all around and around.  The kitty potty made him happy.  He then preceded to do his business.  Yeah!  he knows about the kitty potty.  We again put the blanket around the cage for warmth and secured it down with bricks.  This cat is not going to get out of the cage.  We also turned on the heat lamps in the garage so he won't be cold.  (Instead of the normal lights in the garage they are heat lamps for the winter to keep the car warm)  The car is not in the garage at this time.  I did just check in on him and he is doing ok.  I did buy flea spray today for kittens because I do have to deflea him before he comes in the house.  Since he was born outside who knows what he has.  Tomorrow should be fun as that is the day we are bringing him in the house.  He should be calm down enough for being in the house now.  If he is adjusting ok and all is going well, I will have to take him to the vet this week for a checkup and make sure he doesn't have worms, etc.   With my other cat just having surgery this week, that bill was around $600.00 ouch!!! this new cats vet visit is not going to be easy on my budget.  If you are a cat lover and would like to help with the vet bills,  please check out catlady531 on etsy and see if there is something you could use or want.  I can use all of the help I can get right now.   Thank you and I hope you are enjoying reading about my little feral kitten cat.

    My feral kitten............update

This morning I went and checked the trap and nothing.  At noon I checked and the food was eaten but it did not set off the trap.  I looked inside the large cage and there he was using the kitty potty.   I quickly closed the door.  I just came back from running some errands and he has escaped from the cage.  How I do not know.  Will Feral is loose in the garage again.  I reset the trap with more stinky cat food and opened the door to the large cage.    I think Will Feral will be a challenge.

Feral kitten running loose in the garage

Well,  I came back from picking up the large cage to put the little feral kitten in and went into the garage to look at the little kitten.  To my suprise the little kitten had caught himself a mole and was getting ready to eat it.  Since moles are blind, I figure it walked into the cage and the little guy killed him.  I am very happy to learn he has already learned to hunt.  I got the new large cage all setup with the food, water, blanket and the necessary kitty potty.  I opened the trap door very slow and got it positioned just right in the big cage.  He flew out of the trap and passed me so fast I did not know what happened.  I now have this little black kitten running or I should say hiding in my garage.  Daughter and I searched for a half an hour and could not find him.  We are hoping he did not go up into the rafters of the garage.  There is no way out of the garage so he is in there somewhere.  I have now reset the trap with the food in it in hopes I can retrap him.  I really think he is now too smart for that and since the garage has an endless supply of mice and moles I will never catch him.  I will check on him in the morning.

I have trapped the feral kitten

Well gang,  I caught the  little black kitten in the trap.  It did not take long.  It is little and wide eyed as if to say,  oh what mess did I get myself into.  I have it in the garage with a bowl of food and water.  I am going to Gloria's house (sister-in-law) and get a cage to put it into (so I can bring it in the house)  until it can become a little tame.  I am hoping that I got it in time before it became too feral.  If it is a boy I think I will name it Will Ferrell (get it).  I took Malley cat out to the garge to see the little one.  Mind you Malley cat is also black and when I sat Malley down next to the cage it was too cute.  The kittens eyes got real big and it meowed and came over to side of the cage.  It looked at Malley like Mommie?   It seemed real happy to see Mommie.  Well, Malley gave that deep moan to the kitten and the kitten backed up sad and heart broken.    I will keep you updated on the kittens progress.

The feral kitten and the trap

The little black cat is in his (I really think it is a boy) hiding spot and waiting for his breakfast.  I set the trap right where I feed him and he ran.  I called little kittie I have food and he turned around and came back.  It has been 20 minutes and he hasn't gone into the trap yet.  He is about 10 weeks old and I think he is already too smart to fall for that.  I am hoping he goes in there.  It is nice stinky tuna flavored wet food.  They like stinky food.  I will keep you posted.  If he hasn't gone in there by night fall, I will pull the trap as I do not want to catch a skunk during the nightime skunk walk.  Wish me luck.  I think he will go in there when he gets hungry enough.

I have a little feral kitten cat living behind my garage

There was 3 very tiny feral kittens living in my backyard behind the garage.  I tried and tried to catch them and sadly I am now down to 1 little black kitten.  I think I know what happened to the mother.  About a month ago she was living the next block with her babies and someone got mad and called the humane society.  Why they call it a humane society is beyond me because as soon as they pickup a animal, if they feel it is not adoptable or even if it is, it is now a dead dog or cat.   They came and got the mother and 2 of the babies, but they did not know was that there were 3 more babies.  The babies ended up behind my garage and because they are feral I did not want to feed them.   But I gave in and fed them.  The tiny tiny little one did not make it.  The other disapeared 2 days ago.  Now I have the 1 little black cat left.  I can't really take it in as I already have 2 cats and 1 big dog but I am not going to leave it out there.  So I got a trap so I could catch it.

free is not good enough 1940s willet maple early american couch and chair

Ok here it goes,  my parents had a beautiful 1940s willet maple early american couch and chair.  Mom had the cushions recovered in the 70s.  Then it was in style now it is just plain ugly.  Oh wait the 70s look is back in.  The wood is beautiful the cushions have no stains or holes etc.  Its only fault the cushions are ugly,  but they can be recovered.  I really need to get rid of this set because I need the room.  I called the St Vincents DePaul people and they came to pick up the items.  They looked at it and said no.  It was too ugly and no one wants early american.  The willet maple is collectible.  Ok I am giving this set away for free and because people that are in need of furniture won't take it because it is early american.  What is wrong with people.  People that are in need of items are being picky.  What it won't go with their decor inside their cardboard box.  Screw it,  I guess I will not donate anything more.  If you need a couch and chair I guess you are out of luck because you are being too picky.
