The Funny For The Day..................How not to cook a turkey

Picture it, the year is about 1965 and our neighbor lady was cooking her Thanksgiving turkey on the front porch.  She was using one of those old bbq grills that you could attach a rotating spit and the turkey would turn.  Now the front porch had a low overhang and every time the turkey would turn  the grease would hit the coals and shoot up a huge flame.  I stood there and watched the flames get higher and higher.  I told her this is not a good idea, this is going to cause a fire.  She told me, it is going to be fine, and I told her no and she said IT'S FINE.  Remember I am about 12 and what does a 12 year old know.  Sure enough on one of the turns the flames shot up the turkey basically burst into flames and started the overhang on the porch on fire.  One of her sons who was my age and I were watching as she starts screaming help!!! I yelled to her get some baking soda to put out the fire.  She told her son get the baking soda and instead of putting it on the grill, she poured it all over the turkey.  Yes the baking soda stopped the fire, but it also killed the turkey.  No turkey dinner for the Smith family.  (Name changed to protect the stupid)

Moral of the story...........never cook a turkey on a porch with a low overhang and listen to kids once in awhile they might be smarter than you.

The Funny For The Day.........................Who is in the nursing home with mother

This is my own personal funny.   When my mother was in the nursing home she use to tell me about this one lady that would sing for the other residents.  This lady was a resident in the same nursing home as my mother.  Mother said she had a really good voice and was a good entertainer.  I did not know her name but mother would talk about her all of the time.  One day I asked mother who is that lady and she replied she was one of Elvis's backup singers.  I am like WHAT....she sang with Elvis Presley? Oh yes, mother replied and you should see her scrap book and pictures of Elvis etc.    Ok what is she doing here in this nursing home.  Of course we don't know.  I asked mom's care giver about this and she replied, yes it is true.  She was one of Elvis's backup singers.  I never did get to meet her or see her albums.  You never know who you will meet.

Remember that satellite that recently was gonna drop a 300# chunk ..... somewhere - maybe Canada, maybe India, maybe Washington State .... but it was gonna fall "somewhere"? And, there was "only a 1/3200 chance" that it would injure somebody? Then, NASA announced that it had fallen to earth, but they didn't know where? Well, here's the straight skinny.

    My feral kitten babies

I have been crying for 3 days since I made the decision to take them to the Humane Society.  Trust me when I tell you, I did not want to do this, but I just don't have the money for the vet.  I took them in this morning in the pouring rain.  I guess the clouds felt as sad as I did.  At the Humane Society they will stay there until they are adopted. Since they were only babies they will probably be adopted within a few days of being up for adoption.  The guy at the HS did say that Mickey had something going on in his belly, since he was so boney but had this huge polar bear tummy.  I already knew that.  They have 10 vets on site so they would get immediate checkup and medication.  They are now both over 2 pounds so when they are healthy the will get spade and neutered.  I gave them instructions and signed papers that if they would have to be put down for health or behavioral issues to call me.  If they think they can't be adopted because they are unfriendly, not to me.  They love me.  I did not search for them and feed them and rescue them for them to end up dead cats.   They will try to have them adopted together but can not guarantee that.  They do background checks on perspective parents so they will hopefully go to a good home.  I was so depressed I could not even go shopping.  Now that is depressed.  I figure another day of crying then I will be ok.  I never fostered pets before and I really do not know how people do it.  Whether they foster human babies or animal babies how do you turn them over without it ripping out your heart.  I know I will never forget the 2 little babies that came into my heart.   Minnie Kittie and Mickey Kittie.

My feral kittens............Mickey and Minnie need medical attention

Minnie is doing better everyday in becoming a house cat.  Minnie still hisses.  We are stating to think she does not know how to meow.  Her hissing is her meowing.  At least she is getting better when she gets startled.  She is kitty farting less.  She needs medical attention also.  Mickey is all boy.  The arms are still wild with the claws out and he does not want to be held.  But the funny thing is, when he is sitting in the cage he likes to watch me on the computer and then he just starts purring and purring.  He really is not doing a good job on trying to act like a tough cat.  He also likes the dog and is very interested in him.  Minnie does not think too much of the big dog.   Both Minnie and Mickey have health issues that need to be seen by a vet, but since that is not at all in the budget..........Mickey is just bones on the upper portion of this body.  His stomach is huge.  It either means he has worms. (I have seen no evidence of that)  or he is suffering from malnutrition.  Which is quite possible since I don't think he ate for weeks before I caught him.  He has been eating like a pig so it is either or.   There are no free animal clinics and I even called the humane society to see if they would help.  At least a free checkup or something but no.  I know it is alot to ask.  I even asked them about doing a checkup etc and then I will foster them until they are ready to be adopted and again the answer was no.    I am hoping for more sales on Etsy so I can get these little kittens the medical attention they need.  Please checkout my Etsy page.

    My feral kittens..................now have names

I figured it was about time I gave these little kittens a name, stead of black one and gray one.  After thinking it over, there was only one name to give them.  We now have Mickey and Minnie.   Last night Minnie was out for her bonding time, when something scared her and off she went.  I was watching Ghost Hunters at the time. :)  I found her in the bedroom hiding under the dresser.  Today they both were out for bonding time and Mickey is all boy.  He is just arms and legs, claws out and fighting.  Remember he is still new to this.  After I wrapped him up in the towel, he had no choice but to settle down.  He did meow this morning which is a good sign.  Minnie still hisses.  I don't think she knows how to meow.  We are thinking her hissing is her meowing.  Minnie loves bonding time.  She just lays all sprawled out purring.  She is doing well adjusting to the situtation.  Today Wicket my older female cat was sitting on top of the cage and when husband when to get her down she got made at him.  I am starting to think she wants to adopt them.   Later on tonight they will come out once again for bonding.  Remember I only have a month to get them ready to be adopted. They are still both eating like pigs.

    My feral kittens...................update

My feral kittens are progressing nicely.  The little black one (the girl) is very protective of her little brother.  I have had her out and we are learning how to play.  She sits on my lap and stretches and likes her belly rubbed.  I have attached a mouse cat toy on a string and have it dangling from the top of the cage.  They are getting the hang of batting it around and trying to grab it.  It is like they are playing tetherball.  I had the little boy out today for a little bonding time, but he is still a little scared and tries grabbing me with his claws out.  Remember this only his second time out of the cage.  I will take the little black one out later on.  She is doing better each day.  They are still too new to being in the house, so I cannot let them have any freedom yet.  They are both eating like pigs.

    My feral kitten...............its a boy

The new little gray fluffy feral kitten is a boy.  The black one is a girl and the gray one is a boy.  I waited until he ate and was happy that he found his sister and then I gave him a bath.  He really really is under weight.  He also weighs about 1 pound 10 ounces but he is bigger but very skinny.  Since I haven't seen him in almost 2 weeks, I don't think he has had much to eat.  I don't think he knows how to catch mice or moles.  He has been eating all day.   He is a very calm cat for being feral, but then again he is with his sister.  He gave a little struggle during the bath but afterwards when he was wrapped in the towel he was just purring, so I know he was happy.  The little black one his sister is the tough one of the two, or at least she thinks she is.  She hisses and then I tell her, she is not a big cat.  She then puts her head down and starts to purr real loud.  The one funny thing about her is because of this is so new to her, things scare her.  When she gets scared or startled, she kitty farts and they are not good smelling kitty farts.  She is getting better at that.  The two of them are curled up together sleeping right now.  When I go watch tv in about 15 minutes I will take the little girl with me for some play time.  Or just getting use to being around people.  Tomarrow I will take the little boy the gray one out for play time.

    My feral baby kitten..............now I have 2

The good news of the day is the other baby kitten, the little gray fluffy one is still alive.  Since I hadn't seen it in 2 weeks I thought it had passed.  Since she was very hungry it only took 15 minutes to trap.  It took her longer how to figure to get into the trap.  She really is a cutie.  I didn't bother to leave her in the garage for several days, I first brought the trap into the house so she could see her sister and they were very happy to see one another.  I then took the trap back out to the garage and opened it up and poured her out right into the towel where I wrapped her up nice and secure.  I then just brought her into the house and put her into the large cage.  After she ate up the original dish of food she went after the other one.  The two little kittens are now snuggling up to each other like they did outside.  Happy Day.   I will wait until later on this afternoon and attempt to give her a bath and a flea spray.  Check for ear mites etc.  She is rather scruffy looking.
