My mother started my collecting of junk

My mother always was collecting something but her big thing was rocks. The year is 1954 and the movie The Long Long Trailer had just come out staring Lucille Ball and Desi... Arnaz. In the movie Lucy's character collects rocks all along their journey across the country to have a memory of every place they visit. She wants to built a rock garden in the end when they put their trailer in its new home. My parents went to see the movie. They loved it. They saw it in the big theatre in Milwaukee. So from that moment on untill my father died everytime they or we went somewhere you guessed it my mother had to pickup a rock. My dad use to tell me how my mother always made him stop the car on the highway to pickup a rock she saw by the side of the road. When I was cleaning out mothers house I found rocks in the sunroom, basement, boxes of rocks, and outdoors. There were rocks all over. Big rocks Little rocks. I never new how many rocks there were in that house. I couldn't throw them out. They meant so much to her so I arranged them all outside.  My daughter Jessica and her husband Sean now live in mothers house and when Sean was doing landscaping in the backyard he moved the rocks around. I was frantic I asked him you didn't throw out the rocks did you. He replied NO I could hear your mother yelling at me from her grave not to touch her rocks. But he did curse at her about having to move all of those darn rocks. He did make a nice rock garden in the front and back and without him even knowing it, he put some of those darn rocks back in there original spot in the front yard. Several months ago I watched the movie The Long Long Trailer and it hit me where my mother got the idea of collecting rocks. I never put it together until now the correlation between the movie and my parents house of rocks. It was a memory of my mothers and fathers life of travels.

My love of collecting Junk

I have always loved collecting junk.  It is now called collectibles but when I started out as a kid it was called junk.  Now this is the mid 1950's and mondays was trash day.  Today mondays is still trash day.  Somethings never change.  I was just a kid and I wasn't even in school yet.  I couldn't wait for trash day.  I would tell my mom I am going trash can picking and off I went.  Everybody's trash can was a treasure trove of goodies.  After a while people knew what I was doing and they left me some pretty good goodies.  Some of my most treasured items I found were a gorgeous 1940's lucite purse. It is a rare one and very highly collectible today.  One day on one of my adventures I opened the metal trash can to find it full of grass.  Someone had just mowed their lawn and sitting on top of all of that grass was a pile of jewerly.  Necklaces and braclets.  They were beautiful.  Another treasure was a 1800's glass butter maker.  You put cream in it and turn the handle and whip it until it turns to butter.  The list goes on and on.  I still have all of treasures today.  To this day I love to go looking for junk.  It is not trash cans anymore but the old thrift stores.

My Life My Stories

Ever since I was a kid I knew I had a book in me and since I never did write that book I am now going to blog all of my stories for everyone to read.  I am on facebook and tell all of my stories to my friends.  They have suggested I start a blog for the world to read.  I was a wacky funny child and I am still today a pretty weird and wacky lady.  I am a baby boomer and now qualify for a AARP card.  I have always found that normal day things are pretty funny.   If it was strange and stupid it would happen to me.  When it comes to luck I have non.  I am a only child not by my parents choice.  It was never meant to be that I had siblings.  Robin Williams was an only child also and he once said his sense of humor came from being an only child and having to entertain youself when you had no one to play with etc.  I am happily married and this year makes it 35 years with the same man.  HELP...I always thought after 25 years of marriage you should get a watch and move on.  Just kidding honey.  I have a wonderful daughter.  The best there ever was.  Again only 1 child and not by her parents not trying for another.  It wasn't meant to be.  My stories are all true.  They are the stories of my life and the funny things that have happened in My Life's Journey.  I don't tell them in any particular order.  It is just what pops into my head that day or something that reminds me of something that happend.  Please enjoy reading them and I hope they bring a smile to your face or give you a good chuckle.
