The Funny For The Day......................Fire chief emblem

As I was searching Etsy for interesting items, I came across this cutie.  It is a fire chief emblem.  When I saw it, it reminded me of something from my child.  When I was a kid, late 50s early 60s I was walking around the neighborhood when I came across a man burning leaves in the gutter. He had a really good fire going.   Now burning leaves is dangerous especially to a kid under 10.   I told the man, you can't do that and I am going to call the fire dept.  His reponse was go ahead, I am the chief of the fire dept.  Of course I did not believe him and I told him so.  He then pointed out this emblem that was on his house.  Well of course, I still did not believe so he pulled out his badge and showed me.  Now I feel stupid, but everytime I drive past that house I remember the fire chief.   If you know a fire chief or are one, you have to have this emblem.  Check out this listing on Etsy.

The Funny For The Day......................Porno in the Produce Dept

After the Walgreens disaster and the motorcyle car accident I finally made my way across the street to the grocery store to get 1 box of garlic.  Now the garlic is in the produce dept and what happened there,  I will be gentle on this one.....as I was picking out my garlic there was a man a couple of feet away from me picking out onions and he was talking on his cellphone about his latest boyfriend.....and how wonderful, extra he is in the bedroom.  The conversation goes on.......and all I am going to say is, it was porno in the produce dept.

Now when you check out the bagger always asks do you need help to your car with that.  This time because all I had was a little box of garlic he asked if I wanted a bag.  I said no, but I said to him, you could carry my package out to the car for me, since it is so heavy.  The kid just stared at me until he realized I was kidding him and then he laughed.

The funny For The Day......................The Blue Haired Gang and Butt Wipes

Today I had to go to Walgreens to pickup a few things and I figured I better go before everyone came home from church.  I missed my opportunity and the store was full of the blue haired gang.  Now I am really start to hate coupons.  With the popularity of the coupon show shopping sometimes is a nightmare.  I was ready to checkout when the manager was called to the register for a coupon conflict.  Ok I will go to the other register.  Oh wait, manager to register 2 another coupon conflict.  Oh heck, I will just wait it out this register.  After after coupon conflict I decided to go to register 2 and wait.  Now that person has yes that is right another coupon catastrophe.  The clerk and the customer started to argue about moistened butt wipes verses regular butt wipes.   It seems the coupon was for the plain and they bought the moistened so no coupon allowed.  The lady ahead of me waiting got so discussed she left.  They argued back and forth about butt wipes and finally the clerk is like do you want me to give you a refund then you can buy the moist butt wipes and use your $2.00 coupon.  YES...Ok, then let me have your receipt...I don't have a receipt you never gave me one, yes I did, no you didn't as the customer is shaking her fist at the clerk.  This went back and forth for sometime.  Finally the blue haired lady realized the receipt was in her hand the whole time.  More screaming and yelling and finally the clerk called for the manager and in the mean time she said, let me take care of this lady (meaning me) and when I left the manager, clerk and the customer were all yelling about the butt wipes.  I like coupons just like the next person, but somewhere this has to stop.

PS.......When I tried to exit the driveway from Walgreens there was a 3 motorcycle and 1 car accident.    Read the next story about my experience in the grocery store.

The Funny For The Day......................................Save The Pink Bathroom

I just found this wonderful website dedicated to saving the vintage pink bathrooms. I grew up in a house with a pink bathroom and after my parents died, I now own the house. My daughter and her husband now live in the house and she hates the pink bathroom, but since I own the house, the pink bathroom stays. The house my husband and I live in, also has a vintage pink bathroom. It also has the original pink chalkware swan plaques and pink swan towels. So if you want to save the vintage pink bathroom, please check out this website. I think you will enjoy it, and bring back alot of memories.

The Funny For The Day........................I didn't order salmon

Yesterday my husband and I went to the movies and saw Sherlock Holmes.  I liked it, once I figured out what was going on.  After the movie we went to Red Lobster for dinner.  I had shrimp and my husband had shrimp and steak.  Our waitress was very nice and the food was delicious.  After dinner when we got our bill, I looked at it and was like, this is not our bill.  I had already given the waitress my card so the bill was already rung up.  So she had left to go to the register and I said what a minute, I did not order salmon or wine.  She looked at me confused and said what, and I replied I did not order salmon or wine.  She came flying over to the table and grabbed the bill and just crumbled it up into a ball.  She was not happy.  She explained it was going to take awhile to straighten this out.  She had to get the manager etc.  I just thought it was funny.  I know this bill was cheaper than our bill would have been and I should have just shut my mouth and pay the cheaper bill, but my parents taught me to be honest.  When it was finally straightened out the waitress just said thank you thank you for being so honest.  I would have lost my job over this.  I was like what, you would have been fired because of this.  She said yes because it had happened before.  She was so happy and just shook our hands and said thank you thank you.   Would the $10.00 that I would have saved been worth this women loosing her job over a simple mistake no.

Update On The Prayer Chain

Good news everyone,   Fred got his feeding tube out and is starting to eat real food.  He now has been transfered out of intesive care ward and into a regular room in the therapy ward.  The doctors are just amazed at his progress.  My friend is over joyed and so am I.

Update On The Prayer Chain

Hi everyone,  the news is getting better and better.  This post is what my best friend posted on FB.  She hasn't been doing FB updates as this has taken everything out of her.  She is complety exhausted.

I just got home from the hospital. Another good day for Fred. His doctor gave me a very good report. He is near 99% mind clarity. He was able to stand today and they told me that he walked with lots of help but walked to his room door and back. Speech improved a little too. Still on a feeding tube but he to...told me tonight that he is really hungry and wants pizza, but only Chicago pizza as soon as he can. OK, I am over joyed. Yes, he has a very long way to go. He will be in rehab for some time. But wow, I can see that I am getting my Fred back. Thank you again to all for your prayers, support, concern, for both Fred and me. We would not be where we are right now without it. Thanks to my brother for coming up tonight to sit with me and dinner. Thank you, Thank you.

Update On The Prayer Chain

My best friends husband is doing remarkable for all that he has been going through.  The doctor said his memory is 99% back,  his arm and leg movments are coming along.  They haven't had him up walking yet.  Way too many wires still connected to him.  He is doing arm and leg exercises in bed.  Kidney's coming back, slow but sure.  His speech is still very slurred and it takes several tries at what he is saying to understand him.  But, he knows what he wants to say.  Which is a good thing.  Keep the prayer chain going as it is very powerful.  Thanks to all.

The Funny For The Day ................................Blimpie

For the past 3 years down here in Florida,  I have been trying to get a good closeup picture of the blimp. Today when I went to the mailbox, there it was, right above my head. You can hear it. So here is my closeup picture of the blimp. The problem was, I was trying to take a picture right in the bright sun. I know, you don't have to say anything. I have way too much time on my hands.

Nancy's Recipe Box............................Chicken and Dumplings

  • 1 (2 1/2-pound) chicken, cut into 8 pieces
  • 3 ribs celeryy, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 teaspoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
  • 1 (10 3/4-ounce) can condensed cream of celery or cream of chicken soup

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Ice water

To start the chicken: Place the chicken, celery, onion, bay leaves, bouillon, and House Seasoning in a large pot. Add 4 quarts of water and in water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer the chicken until it is tender and the thigh juices run clear, about 40 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pot and, when it is cool enough to handle, remove the skin and separate the meat from the bones. Return the chicken meat to the pot. Keep warm over low heat.
To prepare the dumplings: Mix the flour with the salt and mound together in a mixing bowl. Beginning at the center of the mound, drizzle a small amount of ice water over the flour. Using your fingers, and moving from the center to the sides of the bowl, gradually incorporate about 3/4 cup of ice water. Knead the dough and form it into ball.
Dust a good amount of flour onto a clean work surface. Roll out the dough (it will be firm), working from center to 1/8-inch thick. Let the dough relax for several minutes.
Add the cream of celery soup to the pot with the chicken and simmer gently over medium-low heat.
Cut the dough into 1-inch pieces. Pull a piece in half and drop the halves into the simmering soup. Repeat. Do not stir the chicken once the dumplings have been added. Gently move the pot in a circular motion so the dumplings become submerged and cook evenly. Cook until the dumplings float and are no longer doughy, 3 to 4 minutes.
To serve, ladle chicken, gravy, and dumplings into warm bowls.
Cook's Note: If the chicken stew is too thin it can be thickened before the dumplings are added. Simply mix together 2 tablespoons cornstarch and 1/4 cup of water then whisk this mixture into the stew

House Seasoning:

  • 1 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup black pepper
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder
Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
Yield: 1 1/2 cups

This is a Paula Deen Recipe and it is my favorite Chicken and Dumplings.  It is perfect for a cold winter nights dinner.  Ok,  I eat it anytime not just in the winter.

Update On The Prayer Chain

The news is very good today.  My best friend just called me and said that they are moving her husband out of  intensive care.  After 10 days of being in the ICU it is very much a welcome change.  He is now in the cardiac care therapy wing.  He even opened his eyes for her and said hi and called her by name.  He has not done that in 5 days.   Her and her husband have alot of friends, but she is amazed at how many people (friends of friends of friends) have requested to be a friend on facebook so they can get the updates on her husband.  His medical story is amazing and with the wonderful world of the internet and facebook, you find out how many people out there really care as to what is happening to a total stranger.  As I have stated before, the power of prayer and good thoughts works miracles.

Update On The Prayer Chain

My best friends husband is taking one step forward and 2 steps back.  He is refusing to eat or take his medication, so they gave him a feeding tube.  He is refusing to do the 20 questions that doctors like to ask.  What is your name, lift your leg etc.  He just wants to lay there with his eyes closed and pretend he is asleep.  He will only open his eyes once in awhile.  Again he is refusing to open his eyes.  He doesn't want to do anything.  He keeps trying to pull all of his tubes and wires out so he must wear boxing gloves and he gets a sitter.  She just sits by his bed and makes sure he doesn't pull out his tubes.  I could go on, but you get the picture.  So please everyone we are asking for your prayers and good thoughts that he makes it through this and starts acting like he wants to get better.

Nancy's Recipe Box..............................Pizza

We love Pizza.  Back when my husband and I first started dating,  Friday or Saturday night was Pizza date night.  Now 36 years later, we still eat pizza on Saturday night.   There are good pizza chains out there and we do have really good Italian restaurants in town.  But the problem with the Italian resturants is the pizza is huge and there is only 2 sizes huge and gigantic.  So for the 2 of us, homemade pizza is the best.  It is easy and quick to make.  It takes less time to make and bake a pizza than it is to go get it.  I prefer homemade crust where my husband likes the original Boboli pizza crust you can buy in the grocery store.  I use either the Boboli pizza sauce or Classico Traditional Pizza Sauce.  Again here is where making your own pizza is the best.   My husband likes more sauce on it than I do.  So for his side it gets more sauce then my side.  Sprinkle on top of the sauce some oregano.  Again he likes more oregno than I do. So I say, sprinkle to taste.  Cheese, you cannot skimp on the cheese.  I use only Sargento mozzarella shredded cheese in the 2 cup bag.  Use the regular shredded not the fine.  You cannot use the bargain cheese as it comes out like rubber.  It does not have that cheesie pull like real mozzarella cheese.   We like pepperoni and of course he wants more, where I want less.  He also likes  Johnsonville Hot Italian Sausage and I do not.  Add onions or green peppers.  Put on what you like and how much you like.  You can't go wrong and I think once you start making your own pizza's you won't go back to the takeout pizza again.

Last but not least, is the pizza screen that you bake it on.  QVC sells a great pizza screen.  You get 2 for $24.95 item number K21594.  It is customer top rated.  You can bake other things on it besides pizza.  That is the screen that my pizza is sitting on.

Also,  like Johnsonville Italian Sausage on Facebook and get a $1.00 off coupon for Italian Sausage.

The Funny For The Day..................Questions that Haunt Me!

Can you cry under water?
How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?
Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box ?
What disease did cured ham actually have?
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby " when babies wake up like every two hours?
If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?
Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
Why do doctors leave the room while you change?
They're going to see you naked anyway.
Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural?
Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat ?
If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?
Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?
If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?
Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours?
They're both dogs!
If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?
If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your ass?
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window

Update on The Prayer Chain

Todays update on my best friends husband.  Her husband is doing remarkable for having everthing that could go wrong, go wrong.   Including dying and having the doctors bring him back from being dead.  His medical story is so unbelievable that there were doctors observing the surgery so he can be written up in a medical journal.  His recovery is slow, surgery was only Wednesday.  The eeg from this afternoon is no more strokes, no bleeding from the brain, heart and lungs working properly.  His kidneys are one step forward and one step back.  He is still having hallucinations all from the strokes and being on the operating table so long.  My best friend is a wreck.  It is killing her to see her husband is such a wild state.   It hurts me also, to see her in such pain.  The only thing I can do is just be there for her.  We will get through this.  All of the prayers and good thoughts has worked.  We still need to prayers to get him through this.  Thanks to all.    I will update again.

The Blue Haired Gang...................The Old Ladies Dig The Dog

Today I had to go to a little boutique to pick up something special for my best friend.  While I was there, the blue haired ladies that were behind the counter were talking about last nights episode of Dog The Bounty Hunter.  They were gushing over the Dog.  The way they were talking about him, it was as if they were talking about Frank Sinatra.  (Idol of there time) or even the latest soap opera.  While I was standing at the counter another lady came into the store and she was like did you see The Dog last night.  What kind of badge is that around his neck, do you think he carries a real gun?   Me personally I don't know,  I was busy watching Ghost Hunters and Face Off.   I really found it funny that the old ladies Dig the Dog.

Update on the Prayer Chain

More good news.....My best friend just called me and her husband is doing real good.   He is off the oxygen and breathing on his own.  The kidney function is back to normal.  He is moving his arms and legs.  The big news is, he wants to eat.  He is hungry.  He hasn't wanted to eat in 2 weeks.  He is still in intensive care which is normal but he wants out.  He is barking orders as my friend calls it, so for him he is coming back.  Now you have to realize that as they were wheeling him into surgery yesterday morning for all intensive purposes he died.  If he hadn't been on his way in, he would have been dead.   They saved him without a minute to spare.  Thank you, thank you all for all of your prayers.  I fully believe the power of prayer is powerful.   I will keep you updated.

Update on the Prayer Chain

More good news.   They woke my best friends husband and had him do the wiggle your toes and squeeze my hand routine and he passed.   My best friend, his sister and my daughter got be in the room when they did this, which is the best medicine my friend could have.  She has been a basket case since this all went down.  The nurse also held up the urine bag and said see this....great news his kidney function has come back so no kidney dialysis needed.   Daughter is like, ok to much sharing.  I don't need to know this.  She is a real hoot.  We are pretty sure he knew they were in the room.  Again a good thing.  Daughter is taking her home tonight because in her worried condition she is no shape to drive home.  The hospital is about 45 min to a hour away depending on traffic.  My friend has not left the hospital in 3 days.  My friends sister-in-law will take her back in the morning.  If something should happen during the night and she has to go back to the hospital then my daughter and her husband will drive her back.  My best friend thanked me  for having my daughter.  I know I am truly blessed for having such a wonderful daughter.  My friends husband has been sedated again and is in guarded condition, which is normal for having gone through what he has gone through.  In the morning they will do another EEG to determine if he had another stroke during surgery.   For everyone out there that is on the prayer chain keep sending those prayers and thinking good thoughts as it is working.  Thanks everyone.   I will update when I get more news.

Update on the Prayer Chain

Good news everyone.   The prayer chain has been working.  My best friends husband is out of surgery and it went well.  The heart valve replacement was a success so far.  The next 24 hours is critical.   The heart and aorta were ok so no open heart surgery.  Yes.  But both valves had to be replaced due to the infection that was eating them away.  The good news, bad news is when he went into surgery this morning he was in full cardiac arrest so they got him in, in the nick of time. Both lungs had also stopped working.  The kidneys have shut down, so he will need dialysis.  Did he have another stroke on the table?  That is unknown until they do another EEG tomarrow.  Because he was on the table for so long and hooked up to machines they do know he is going to have  memory loss.  Also due to the prior stroke.  How much, unknown.   They will be waking him up later on tonight to get a visual then they will put him back into a sleep state for about 24 hours.   My best friend is a mess right now, she doesn't know what to do.  Scared, confused and happy that he is still alive.  He has a very good team of doctors, so with gods help and everyones prayers,  I know he will be ok.  Recovery is going to take a long time.  So keep the prayer chain going and I will post an update when I get one.   Thanks everyone.

We need your prayers and good thoughts today

My best friend of over 35 years,  I consider her my sister and not just a friend, her husband is having mega major surgery today.  What has happened to that man since Friday 1/13 is something that movies are made from.  He is only 61 years old.  The man was the picture of health until the 13th.  Where do I start to give you the short version.  He has had 3 strokes, bleeding on the brain, kidneys have shut down and some wild infection that is eating away at his heart and the valves.  They wanted to get him stable with the brain and kidneys before they went and did the heart surgery, but he took a turn yesterday and if they don't do surgery right now, the outcome is not good.   With strong antibiotics they got the bleeding on the brain stopped.  The kidneys are not yet 100% but surgery has to be done now.  He has to have open heart surgery, replace the valves with pig valves and the infection is eating away at the aorta so they have to fix that.  They really don't know what else has to be done until they get in there.  He has a team of 12 doctors working on him.  Of course they gave my friend the 5 cent speech about he could stroke out on the table and will be a vegtable for the rest of his life or he could have a massive heart attack that would kill him.  She hasn't called me yet this morning so I don't know how it is going.  Surgery is expected to last about 12 hours.  I can't be there and it is killing me.  If my husband and I got in our car right now and started driving,  we might make it there sometime Friday night.  My daughter is there with her.  My daughter calls her, her aunt since I have known my friend before daughter was born.  My friend and her husband do not have any children.  To tell you how close we are,  my friends husband made my daughter power of attorney just in case.....you know the rest.   Why, because daughter would follow through with his wishes, wife would be too upset and his sister would faint.  At least her husband has a good sense of humor right now.   I am writing this as I feel totally useless here and right now it is in gods hands and the surgeon.

We need all of your prayers and good thoughts right now.  We need the prayer chain.  I will post a update when I know one.

catlady531 on Etsy..................the scarves are in

The vintage scarves have arrived.

This is a vintage 60s mod red, white, navy blue and yellow polka dots and daisies scarf. This is just a fun colorful scarf. It measures....18.5" x 19". There is no fabric tag so my best guess is it is a silky polyester. It is in fantastic vintage condition with no items to note. Perfect for your mod or scooter girl wardrobe. Colors also work great for all of the patriotic holidays.

The Funny For The Day.......Your going to who's house

On Sunday when Helmsley the dog and I went for our walk in the park we met up with a friend of ours and his 2 little dogs. He was telling me that today was the memorial service for his step dad. His step dad passed away last month but they had to wait until his step brother was here for the memorial service. Why, because his step brother is the director Nelson McCormick and he has been filming in Australia. (director of Terra Nova etc) I am like WHAT...and Saturday night they were sitting around and he said, do you want to see if John is at home....WHAT John Travolta !!!!! (He lives in Ocala you know) So they called but he wasn't home. He was is in California for the Golden Globes Sunday night.   Nelson had to fly out early Sunday morning so he can be at the Golden Globes Sunday night. I gave him a good slap in the arm and said, next time you go to John's house you better be knocking on my door and say come on lets go visit John. He said, I might just do that. So there is hope that I will meet John T yet.   My question for the day is.....Why don't I know any famous people. My daughter's neighbor is the brother to a famous basketball coach who is still coaching.  When there in town playing, daughter and her husband always get court seats.   I guess if I were to have a bucket list, that would be on my list.  To meet with someone famous.  So I could say, I know someone famous.

Nancy's Cookie Jar...................Molasses Cookies

  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup sugar, plus more for rolling
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or nonstick baking mats. Using an electric mixer at low speed, cream the shortening and sugar until thoroughly combined. Add the egg and molasses and beat until completely incorporated. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt and add to the mixture. Stir until combined. Roll the dough into balls about 1-inch in diameter. Roll the balls in sugar. Place 1/2-inch apart on the prepared cookie sheets. Flatten the balls slightly with your fingertips. Bake for 12 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
I love to bake cookies and this is one of my favorite recipes.  They are great anytime of the year and perfect for dunking in milk or coffee.  There name is Spiced Ginger Cookies, but because of the molasses in them, I call them a molasses cookie.

In praise of the UPS man

Today the ups man came, but not to visit me.  I live on a dead end street so he turns around in my driveway.  When I heard the truck I went to look out the window.   He delivered a package to the man across the street.  This is a 55 community.  My neighbor was in his driveway getting the package from the ups man.  He then turned around to go back into the garage and the ups driver went to his truck.  My neighbor had to climb over the metal dog fence that is across the opening of his garage door.  When he did that his foot got caught in the metal fence and he fell and I think he hit his car on the way down.  The ups driver heard this and turned around and ran backup the driveway and climbed over the dog fence.  The man could not get up so the ups man had to help him back up.  They then inspected the car. :)  After he made sure my neighbor was ok he left.  I did call ups and tell them what a good ups driver they have.  The supervisor did call me so I could relay my story again so they can properly thank him for doing a good job. etc.   After the bad ups stories we heard about over the holidays I just wanted to let them know that there are good ups drivers out there.

The Funny For The Day.....................My mailbox is dirty?

Today in the mail I received a letter from my home owners association stating that  my mailbox was dirty and needed to be washed.  (Once a month the hoa drives around and looks at everyone's property to make sure it is up to the hoa rules and regulations).   With all of the issues that goes on in being a hoa community, I get a letter because my mailbox needs to be washed.  It also stated that I had 10 days to come into compliance with the hoa rules or else I could be fined.   I guess on the next warm day I will go out and wash my mailbox.

The Blue Haired Gang..............Old man teaching old women how to grocery shop

Today when I went grocery shopping there was a old man teaching a old lady how to grocery shop.  He was explaining to her why she should buy example fruit cups, spam, little sausages.  Everything in a can etc.  You need these items just in case the power goes out.  You can eat them without them being cooked or refrigerated.  He explained to her, now is the time I start stocking up just in case the power goes out due to a storm and if nothing happends then I start eating all of this stuff in October.   The women I don't think ever got it, but it was funny listening to him explain everything to her.

The Funny For The Day...............Have you seen me, Who am I ?

Yesterday I went to the thrift shop and found this adorable plastic snowman. He is 14" tall and as you can see in the picture his eyes, mouth and arms move. He takes his hat off.   His red buttons light up. Now he has a speaker in his back so I presume he plays music or sings. I put batteries in him and nothing, but then again my batteries are old. I will get new batteries and try again........OK I am stopping for a minute as I hear a coyote puppy outside and it seems close. I heard them the other night when I took Helmsley outside for him to do his business. Back to the snowman. He does have a spot for an adapter which I do not have. I love snowmen but I have never seen one like this before. If you have any information about him or have seen him before please let me know. I think he is so darn cute even if he doesn't sing.

The Funny For The Day.................My weird neighbor and Fred the dog

The man across the street is really a strange weird man.  I try to say hi or talk to him and he acts like I am typhoid Mary.  Last year he got a cute little beagle dog puppie named Fred and he never potty trained him outside so I presume he is using the doggie mat.  Skip ahead, it is now 1 year later and poor little Fred now a gownup beagle is still not allowed outside the house.  The neighbor does have the garage door raised just enough with a gate across so Fred can at least look outside but that is all.  When I come outside and the neighbor see's me down goes the garage door.  Oh heavens if I should even want to say hi to Fred.  That is not allowed.  I was told last year not to talk to Fred.  Well last week when I was getting ready to go grocery shopping I saw the neighbor.  He was wearing gray sweat pants and over them he had on navy and white flowered surf shorts.  To top it all off he was wearing a bright orange T shirt.  He needs the fashion police.  When I was in the pet food isle at the grocery store there was my neighbor.  I said hi and how was Fred.  The man jumped and just stared at me....finally he said oh your my neighbor.  He said Fred was fine and I said you really need to take Fred out for a walk or something.  Let him play on the grass.  You know be a dog.  He replied no Fred was just fine and happy being a inside dog.  He never goes outside. He didn't want Fred to get in the grass he might dig or something.   Can you imagine this big beagle peeing in the house all of the time.  YUK.....Well today what happened just was the icing on the cake.   The man drives a convertible sports car and he put Fred in the car with the top down and he drove him around the neighborhood.  I was outside doing yard work at the time.  No I was not peeking out my window watching him.  The guy will not take the dog for a walk, but he will drive him around in the car so he can get some fresh air.  I am really missing something here.

The Blue Haired Gang......................Old geezer is dumpster diving for coupons

Our newspaper and magazine recycling center is in our little park where residents walk their dogs.  Today while I was walking into the park with Helmsley the dog I saw a bicycle parked next to the huge dumpster that you put your newspapers in for recycling. (This dumpster is very long and has 8 window like openings that you open to throw in your papers.)  I thought ok..but then I did a double take.  There sticking out of the window of the dumpster was someone on their stomach with there legs just flopping up and down.  At first I thought, oh my god what happend did someone fall in the dumpster, head first.   I walked to the dumpster to see if I could help.  I soon realized what was actually happening was this person was wiggling their way back out of the dumpster.   Just as I got to the dumpster the old guy came out. (Remember we are a 55 community here).  I just stood there and looked at him with his hands holding plastic grocery bags full of coupon inserts that you get in the newspapers.  I really did not know what to say except are you ok?   He mumbled something about collecting coupons as he is hooked on the tv show extreme couponing.   He then got on his bicycle with the plastic bags on the handle bars and drove off into coupon heaven.   Thank goodness the old geezer didn't break a hip in the dumpster.   I know the economy is tight..............I got nothing....I really don't know what to say.

I finally found the perfect cookie jar

I love to make cookies and I think I have searched for the perfect cookie jar forever.  Mind you I have been married for 36 years.  Up to this point I have been using a cookie jar that my mother-in-law made of Big Bird when daughter was little.  Before that it was tupperware.  About a month ago while shopping at Macy's there it was, the perfect cherry red cookie jar.  Yes my cookie jar is always filled.  I love to bake cookies.  In fact, I just finished making cookies.   When I was little we had a black cookie jar with a picture of a little boy on it.  It probably was from the 1920's or 1930's.  It belonged to my grandmother.  Sometime after I was married, I decided to ask mother if I could have the cookie jar and her reply was....that old thing.   I gave that away a long time ago.  Thanks to all of the on line selling places, I have been looking for my grandmothers / moms  cookie jar.  Still no luck.  I will keep looking.  I am sure it will turn up somewhere.
